The Perfect Proposal

DATE OF EVENT: December 4, 2009

So it was a Friday night and I really didn't think anything to special about that day. Justin and I have been running errands all day and we got a lot done so we wanted to relax. We went to Walmart so that we can pick up something to eat for dinner. Of course, if you know us really well, we bought Top Ramen Noodles... because they are so good (not so healthy) and very cheap! I was just going to eat at his place so right before I started to cook it, he said, "Why don't we go out to eat? I want to take you out on a date!!" Of course, how can I resist such an offer!! He told me to get ready and dress REALLY CUTE. (I love dressing up by the way).

When he picked me up, he looked so handsome! My prince has arrived to take me out! I didn't ask him where we were going because I trusted him to make the right decision. And HE DID!! We pulled up to my favorite restaurant, Copeland's.

Oh yessss. But as we pulled in, I saw that the parking lot was so packed and so I told him that we can go somewhere else. But don't doubt my prince, he said, "It's ok, I'll be sure to get us in quickly."

As we went in the restaurant, sure enough, the waiting line was long. People were sitting and standing waiting to be seated. I'm thinking in my head, Oh dear... this is probably a 30min wait!

We went up to the desk and my man asked her about the reservation he made! She said, they're cleaning the table right now for us. I was surprised!!! How did he get us in when he just told me that we were going out to eat 30 min ago!!!??? (Little did I know that he had called a couple hours earlier to reserve it... oh he's so cunning!)

We had a wonderful dinner! But there was one time that he got a phone call and he left the table for about 5 minutes... I was kind of sad. (Actually, this phone call had a lot to do with the proposal) But of course I didn't know that so I didn't make a big deal out of it anyway.

After dinner, he said that we should go out to the Christmas lights. This is the Rhema Christmas lights that is a tradition every year. There are about 1.2 million strands of lights throughout the whole park. I wasn't that excited when he asked me to go because we've already been there TWICE and it was 28 DEGREES outside!!!!!! Then he said that it's for his nana... and I was a little confused and told him that we already took pictures for his nana. He made a good call and said, "Well, we're dressed up so we have to take a dressy picture!" I said... "OK!!!" (At this point, things were going according to his plan and STILL, I had NO idea!!!

So after dinner, we left and went to the Rhema Park to see the lights. As we were looking for a parking, I told him that I hope we find someone to take our pictures so that it would look better. He told me that since it was packed, there's bound to be someone. When we got out, we just started to take pictures of each other.

So here we are, loners, nobody to take our pictures... and then, as we went through a tunnel, LOOK WHO SHOWS UP! Dustin Wise, Justin's roomate! And he brought company! Justin had arranged that Dustin would come at around this time so that he can capture the special moment in pictures!

So we started taking the pictures and Justin wanted to take the picture at a particular spot. It was in front of a fountain and I didn't really care much for it either. But he insisted.

there he is... my lovely baby!

After we took the picture, Justin told me to look at the fountain to distract me from seeing him pull out the ring. But Dustin, the undercover camera man, told me to start dancing and so I did. Then I turned around and saw Justin on one knee. When I saw him, I SCREAMED! Really, really loud! And here's the rest of the story in pictures.

Then I took another breath and SCREAMED! I couldn't believe it. It was so shocking tha and it caught me off guard. Justin was smiling so hard but he said he was super nervous.

As I started to dance, I turned around and saw this. My baby was on one knee asking me to marry him, I SCREAMED! And it was LOUD!

He asked, "Will you marry me? I would be honored to have you as my wife." And I said, "YES!!! YES!!! YES!!!"

The crowd was CHEERING! A group of carolers were singing and clapping when all this happend. How they were there, I don't know. At first, I thought that Justin planned for them to come, but later said he didn't. I believe it was God's angels sent to celebrate this moment with us ;-)
These were people who I didn't know that cheered, clapped and sang for us! WOW!
He's putting on the ring. I am soo happy. He is very happy too. =)

The crowd told us to kiss as they were cheering and singing love songs! And so WE DID!!!!

WE'RE ENGAGED! Future Justin and Lily Van Kirk!

THE RING. He did a GREAT job! The symbol of our love and commitment to each another.
THE RING.
From the sweat of my husband's brow.
